If you don't live in Orlando, there are multiple options. You can make it an event with family and friends and take advantage of deep discounts on hotels and Disney tickets that are available to race participants. Don't feel like traveling? Register to "Sleep in for the Cure!" A race packet will be mailed to you, complete with goody bag and T-shirt. You can hit the snooze button that morning and know you are still helping a great cause.
Ready to join our team? It takes just a few clicks of the mouse.
1. Go to the Race for the Cure website.
2. Click on the link to "Join an existing team" in the upper right hand corner.
3. Click on the box labeled "Seach for a Team."
4. You'll see Florida Virtual School listed as a team; click on the link that says "Join."
5. The site will then ask you to "choose participation type." You will be able to register for one of several different options, including:
- 5K Fun Run/Walk, which is the non-competitive option
- a 5K Competitive Run (timed)
- a one-mile fun walk/run
- Kiddie Dash--a short race option for children 10 and under. This includes admission to the Kid Fun area after the race, with games, rides, face-painting, and other activities.
- Sleep in for the Cure (you're not coming to the race, but you'll count toward our team numbers and the goody bag and T-shirt will be mailed to you)
- Proud in the Crowd (not participating in race, but coming to cheer on others. You still get a goody bag and T-shirt)
- other options, including registering as a breast cancer survivor (special recognition)
Once you choose your participation type, you'll see at the bottom that it asks you for an individual fundraising goal. This is totally optional. If you do not wish to raise funds, just put "0" for the amount.
6. Click on "next step," which will take you to a screen that asks for your information, such as name, address, phone number, T-shirt size, etc. Once you've filled that in, you'll go to a payment screen, where you can use a credit or debit card to pay.
Then you're done! All that's left to do is walk or run (or sleep) for your training. More information will be provided about where to meet, how the race works, and how FLVS colleagues will get together.
If you have any questions, please call Team Captain Robin Politowicz at 305-428-8702.
